Several ways to misuse the B-I-B-L-E and miss the point

John Frye has a great post up on how having or using the B-I-B-L-E makes little difference unless we actually are the Bible. Two ways he sees the Bible is not given its rightful place in our lives:

Firstly, there are those who shout about inerrancy, authority, and inspiration but actually hardly read the BIble at all.

"We must not remove the 10 Commandments from the courthouse lobby! What are the 10 Commandments? 'Well, uh, uh, something about no other gods…uh, don’t kill…y’know.' Some claim to be all about protecting the Bible, but they hardly ever read it."

Secondly, there are those who definitely read it, and read it in a certain way, and beat up anyone who doesn't see things their way.

"We have the BIBLICAL view of the end times.” “We have the BIBLICAL view of baptism.” “We have the BIBLICAL view of women in the church.” “We have the BIBLICAL view of the atonement."

He then adds that some use the Bible as a diversion from the Holy Spirit. The Bible is easier to control, you see. He ends with some thoughts on John Wycliffe and this:

"We not only have a Bible; we are the Bible. What are people reading?"

"God has placed obvious limitations on our intelligence, but none whatsoever on our stupidity" The quote was heard from Fr. Corapi; but, I believe he was quoting Archbishop Fulton Sheen (I could be wrong on who originated the quote, if anyone knows please help me)
